A Message From WCDEFA President

Well, it is already here, another year - 2008! Where does the time go? It seems like yesterday we were enjoying last year's covention. In December, we hosted the pheasant hunt donated last year. The hunters we treated to several inches of snow and ice, typical of Wisconsin winter weather. I would like to thank Charly Seale for purchasing the hunt and several other items at the 2007 convention. Charly contributed to our convention's great success, not only with his purchases, but also with his support of our entire industry.

2007 has been a turnaround elk and deer farmers. Wisconsin has been awarded the annual NAEBA International Convention, which will be held in August of 2008. the regional The regional North Central Antler Competition will also be hosted by the Dairy State just prior to theInternational Convention, another first for us! Please mark your calendars for these fun and important events! lf you have never attended a past NAEBA convention they include educational and informative seminars and speakers; great food and entertainment, and the ability to meet wonderful people in the organization. Our past president, Joel Espe, was elected president of NAEBA at the 2007 annual convention. What a year for the Wisconsin Deer and Elk Farmers Association! On the business side of 2007, velvet prices were greatly increased and are projected to either sustain the pricing or continue an upward trend for 2008. We also watched shooter bull prices increase, resulting from the continued support of all associations. A shipment of shooter bulls from Wisconsin to Texas was also a milestone, thanks to Charly Seale. Last year included the formation of a coalition which will support ALL non traditional farmers which is named the Non Traditional Farmers and Ranchers Coalition. For more information, you can visit their website at www.ntfarc.com. We have learned by past experience, it is not only necessary, but also crucial to support all associations.

In addition to all of our New Year's resolutions to lose weight, save money, spend more time with family; let us add a very important goal. Let us add our commitment to work together in support of all industries involved with our cause.

We are stronger in numbers!

As Always,

Your President, Richard Spanton
